The search is over…

I have found the premium netbook. To everyones surprise it’s not made by HP or Dell. It’s not even an American Company. It’s the Everun Note.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen…there are some compromises!

This little devil packs a 7″ screen, which may be a little outdated for those of us staying current with the whole ultraportable world. However, it has got to be the smallest netbook out there with all the features. No more HD playback woes!

The Everun Note sports a 1.2 GHz AMD Turion Dual Core 64 bit capable processor. Yes kids, you read it! DUAL CORE 64 Bit! There are options of SSDs and HDD of up to 80GB. 1GB RAM Standard and…check this out!, 128MB of Video Ram (ATI RS690E)! Now you can play some HD video and play some of your classic games. It also comes with a stock Touchscreen so all you modders out there will be quite happy. A 1.3 MP webcam making videocalls quite possible. 2 USB ports, 1VGA, 1USB Mini, Bluetooth…the works!

There are no OS options and Linux as an OS.

Compromises…

1. Battery Life is reported to be “Up to three hours”, making it 2 hours in the real world.
2. Optical Mouse (although you do have touchscreen and USB ports).
3. Seven (7″) screen, but thats the beauty of it!
4. Price (Starts at over $800 US).
5. Windows XP (It could probably run Vista fine if RAM is upgraded, or Windows 7 for that matter).

Universal Phone Charger Could Be Available on All Mobiles by 2012

17 major mobile phone providers are working together to introduce a universal charger by 2012.

Industry-wide plans to introduce an energy efficient, universal mobile phone charger by 2012 have today been announced.

GSMA, a representative of the mobile communications industry, is to work with 17 of the world’s largest mobile phone networks and makers to bring these long-requested chargers into the public domain.

At the present time different chargers are needed for different makes, and often models, of mobile phone. However, come 1st January, 2012, the GSMA hope that the vast majority of new mobiles will be fitted with a common format connection, compatible with a micro-USB universal charger.

The introduction of a universal charger would not only be vastly more convenient for customers, who will then be able to charge their phone anywhere a recharger is available, but also cut the production of surplus chargers by an estimated 51,000 tonnes.

To add to its environmentally friendly credentials, the so-called universal charging solution (UCS) is to have at least a 4-star energy efficiency rating, making them up to three times more efficient than a standard unrated charger.

Rob Conway, CEO of the GSMA commented: "The mobile industry has a pivotal role to play in tackling environmental issues and this programme is an important step that could lead to huge savings in resources, not to mention convenience for consumers,

"There is enormous potential in mobile to help people live and work in an eco-friendly way and with the backing of some or the biggest names in the industry, this initiative will lead the way."

3, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Orange, Samsung, Sony Ericsson, T-Mobile and Vodaphone are among the 17 companies already on board. However, it is hoped that the vast majority of the 750 GSMA-member mobile phone operators will soon sign up to the scheme.

µUSB-CE5 Slim USB to Serial UART Converter

The μUSB-CE5 (microUSB-CE5) is a USB to Serial UART bridge converter which is simple, cost effective, very small and easy to use. It uses its own PCB as a card edge type connector to plug into a USB A type cable or directly into a USB hub port.

The absence of a mechanical connector makes the μUSB-CE5 a very low profile device. The design is based around the FT232RQ from FTDI and provides the user with multi baud rate serial data up to 3M baud rate. Standard 0.1” pitch 5 pin female or male header can be soldered to provide the essential signals and power to any application. RX and TX signals are both 3.3V and 5V tolerant.
